Linden Trust for Conservation

LTC was founded in 1993 as the Lawrence and Dana Linden Family Foundation.  From that time until 2006, the foundation supported a variety of Linden family interests, principally relating to conservation but also including other charitable areas.  During that time Larry Linden became actively involved with World Wildlife Fund, Resources for the Future and Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Earth Systems Initiative, and those institutions became the recipients of the foundation's largest grants. In addition, in connection with his work with WWF, Mr. Linden became active in supporting large-scale land conservation projects. These activities continue now as LTC's Institutions and Places programs.

In 2006, Mr. Linden realized a long-held plan to create a broader strategy for the foundation and to increase its level of activity and impact.  The foundation was staffed, established an office, and added its largest and most strategic  area of activity, the Markets and Finance program.  In conjunction with this, the foundation changed its name to Linden Trust for Conservation, excluded non-environmental grant-making, and more than doubled its grant-making target to $4 million annually.  This level of giving is intentionally set at a rate significantly higher than the legally-required minimum, with the goal that the foundation will deplete its assets and wind itself down over approximately ten years, or by approximately 2016.

As of December 31, 2007, LTC had assets of approximately $42 million. For more details on LTC's grant-making and financial profile, please view our IRS Form 990s. Please note that our Form 990 does not reflect much of our recent grant-making, which until February 2008 was made through a separate donor-advised fund.
