Reports to: Executive Director

Summary: This is a unique opportunity to join a small, unusually qualified, and highly experienced professional team working on cutting-edge environmental initiatives in markets and finance in an extremely results-oriented setting.

Background: The Linden Trust for Conservation ("LTC") is a medium-sized charitable foundation whose mission is to help stabilize Earth's biodiversity and ecological processes for the benefit of humanity. We pursue this mission by concentrating our grants on a select number of key initiatives, drawing, as appropriate, on business-based approaches and the finance experience of our staff. We take an active role in our key funded initiatives and participate, as appropriate, in their execution. The foundation is expanding its activities and is seeking a second Program Officer to become an integral member of its team. Please see www.lindentrust.org for more background information.

Position: The Program Officer will work directly with our Executive Director and our Founder and Trustee in selecting areas of focus and initiatives to fund, and in executing those initiatives. The Officer will analyze potential projects from both environmental and business/finance perspectives and will participate in the foundation's grant-making decision process. During the execution phase, the Officer will be a key part of LTC's role in driving projects to successful conclusion. This will include managing diverse elements including project strategy and organization, project resourcing, design and marketing of public-policy initiatives, execution of conservation finance deals, and financial and market analysis. We seek a highly motivated person who is interested in contributing to a crucial set of environmental objectives in a highly professional and rewarding team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent understanding of both environmental issues and of business/finance
  • Minimum two years relevant work experience in at least one of these disciplines
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical ability and execution orientation

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a small team environment; "do-what-it-takes" attitude
  • Interest in working in a non-profit setting with a business orientation
